Cowboys dominate in last weekend’s HEB Tournament
March 9, 2022
Last week, the Coppell baseball team dominated in the recent HEB Tournament with six consecutive wins from Thursday to Saturday. Play began on Thursday with games against Burleson and Hurst LD. Bell and concluded Saturday against Lake Dallas.
Going into the games, the Cowboys felt confident in their recent play and expected to perform well at every game throughout the tournament.
The Cowboys won both games on Thursday, beating Burleson, 5-1, and L.D. Bell, 5-0. Their superb performance on the first day of the tournament built momentum that carried into the next day, where they beat both Colleyville Heritage, 4-1, and Frisco Memorial, 11-1, on Friday. The one – sided games gave the players the confidence they needed to stay focused and be more successful at the plate after each game.
“We’re getting more people at the plate and it builds confidence in us,” Coppell coach Ryan Howard said. “When we have games like this and we come out on the winning side, all we do is gain confidence moving forward.”
Going into the final day of the tournament, the Cowboys faced Keller Timber Creek and Lake Dallas, where they again, convincingly gained and held leads throughout the games. Their persistence and confidence in their play earned them a 7-2 victory against Timber Creek and a 10-3 victory against Lake Dallas.
The Cowboys believe that their impressive dominance over the weekend will lead to more convincing wins later on in the season.
“We’ll be able to take the confidence from this game into the next one,” Coppell center fielder Carter Fields said.
Their next home game will be against Plano at the Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex on March 16 at 7:30 p.m.
