Coppell softball concluded its three-day round robin tournament at the Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex on Saturday with a perfect 6-0 record.

The Cowgirls played two games on each day: Fort Worth North Side and North Richland Hills Birdville on Thursday, Argyle and Aledo on Friday and Lubbock Coronado and Richardson on Saturday.

The team started off strong on Thursday after winning North Side, 8-1, and Birdville, 7-6.

According to sophomore second baseman Mallory Moore, prior familiarity on the field with the opposing teams played a role in their confidence to win both games on Thursday.

On Friday, the Cowgirls continued their winning ways, defeating Argyle, 10-3, and Aledo, 1-0.

“That was a tough game. The [Aledo] pitcher that we faced had a really good rise ball, and we struggled on hitting it as a team,” Moore said. “We [strategized to] just get one run across, and just really capitalize on that one run and make sure defense was solid. [That helped] stay on top the whole game.”

On Saturday, the Cowgirls won Coronado, 2-0, and Richardson, 13-6.

“On our team, there [aren’t any] individuals that play for themselves. We are all playing for each other, and [we’re] learning from that,” Moore said. “There [were] some games where we didn’t have a ton of energy or [connection] as a team, and those were the games that we struggled in because being loud in a dug out is super important.”

On Tuesday, the Cowgirls open District 6-6A play at the Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex against Plano at 7:15 p.m. It is also teachers appreciation night.
