On Friday, the Coppell boys basketball team took on first-place Plano with the chance to clinch a playoff berth.

Plano proved to be too much as it led throughout and defeated the Cowboys, 52-39, at CHS Arena. While Coppell had multiple turnovers, players including senior forward Ryan Agarwal scored three-pointers throughout the game.

“By halftime, our strategy was to play better offense and get better stops on defense,” Agarwal said. “We weren’t able to play well as a team.”

During the game, Coppell senior forward Noel Berhe and senior guard Naz Brown were injured.

“[Plano] started stronger than us at halftime, which cost us the game.” Coppell senior guard Devank Rane said.

Plano is 31-0.

“Plano had a much bigger team than us,” Berhe said. “Not only were they more athletic, but we really couldn’t do much when they got a hold of the ball since the game was so fast-paced.”

Friday was Senior Night for the Cowboys.

“It’s definitely a tough loss, especially for the seniors,” Rane said. “[Plano] is a really aggressive team, and they’re 31-0 for a reason. They use their athleticism to their advantage.”

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., the Cowboys will play Plano West in the final game of the season.
