Teatime Tuesday: Is speech and debate significant in students’ futures?

Shrayes Gunna, Staff Writer

In an increasingly connected society where interactions between people have only grown in importance in professional and informal spaces, communication skills are a desirable asset for one to master and employ in their day-to-day lives.

Watch The Sidekick staff writer Shrayes Gunna’s video as he sits down with Coppell High School debate coach and world history teacher SunHee Simon to discuss her opinions on the influence of public speaking and the positive effects of speech and debate on students.

Simon was a debater herself, attending Stanford University, where she furthered her debate career as both a competitor and coach. Now, she hopes to encourage students’ love for the activity and better them in areas of confidence and communicative ability as she works closely with Lincoln-Douglas and World Schools debaters at CHS.
