With a playoff spot clinched, the Coppell baseball team’s only question left is whether or not it will take the first place standing in District 6-6A.

The Cowboys face Flower Mound tomorrow at the Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex at 7:30 p.m.

Coming off a 9-0 victory against Plano East on Saturday, which had been postponed due to rain on Friday, Coppell sits at second in District 6-6A with a 10-3 record. Marcus leads with an 11-2 record. The Cowboys would have to win the series against Flower Mound and Marcus would have to lose the series against Plano East for Coppell to overtake the Marauders.

For Coppell sophomore second baseman Tanner Sever, making the playoffs after last season was cut short due to COVID-19 is satisfying.

“I feel good, we’ve had a good season so far,” Sever said. “We definitely could have done better though, but it was fun getting to play my actual first high school season and getting to play district baseball with some of my best friends.”

Despite the wide margin of victory of Saturday’s game, the goal in practice is hitting.

“The last couple of weeks, we’ve been working on hitting the ball the other other way: if it’s an outside pitch, hitting it the other way,” Sever said. “We’ve been focusing on getting on top of the ball and not getting under it.”
