Baseball warming up bats to face Heath
April 16, 2021
Coming off a strong offensive game, a 7-0 win over Lewisville, the Coppell baseball team hopes to continue its success at the plate. The Cowboys season started off with a low number of runs, at an average of 7 hits per game in its last 7 games.
The Cowboys host Rockwall Heath tomorrow at the Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex, with first pitch at 12 p.m.
“We played [Heath] in a scrimmage earlier in the year,” Coppell senior pitcher Chayton Krauss said. “They’re a really good team and are ranked fifth in the state. We haven’t heard much about what they’re going to do; it’s not one of their main games so we’re not sure [which of their players] they’ll see.”
Heath also has many fast runners, standout pitching and a strong hitting lineup. Notable players include Heath senior Kevin Bazzell who has a .492 batting average. Heath junior outfielder Jett Williams who has 24 RBI’s and 3 home runs and junior pitcher Jonny Lowe who has 53 strikeouts.
To prepare for Heath ( 21-5-1, 6-1 in District 6-6A) the Cowboys (19-7-1, 6-3) are focusing on their offense.
“We’ll mainly focus on getting our bats where we need them to be [to prepare for Heath],” Krauss said. “We need our bats to wake up in order to put up a lot of runs.”
The Cowboys look to build momentum for the rest of the season.
“Beating Heath would definitely help get us more confidence, knowing we beat one of the better teams in Texas,” Krauss said. “[If we win], then we’ll go back to playing district knowing we can win almost much every time.”
