First place is on the line tomorrow night when the Coppell boys basketball team hosts Flower Mound Marcus at the CHS Arena.

Coming off a 70-40 win against Plano West, the Cowboys (12-2, 6-1 in District 6-6A) and Marcus (13-5, 6-1 in District 6-6A) tipoff at 8 p.m. with the winner taking sole possession of first place.

“This is a big game, we want that district title,” Coppell junior guard Ryan Agarwal said. “If we lose this game we don’t control our own destiny anymore, they would have to lose [for us to regain the district title].”

In practice this week, the Cowboys have worked on defensive stops, rebounds and pushing the ball. This will help going into Friday’s game as the Cowboys focus on speeding up the pace of the game, as Marcus often plays at a slow pace with a tight score.

“We’ll be focusing on our defense [in practice],” Coppell junior forward Naz Brown said. “Our offense is pretty good, [so focusing on] our defense will [help] us win [games].”

Coppell is seeking its third consecutive district title.
