Coppell freshman Vedant Bhattacharyya speaks with Coppell assistant Jason Spoor during cross country season last fall. Bhattacharyya, a member of the track team, is injured but still working out this week using cross-training due to the UIL suspending all school practices outside of school hours, including the use of school facilities.

Coppell freshman Vedant Bhattacharyya, a member of the track team, was out due to injury when the UIL announced its suspension of all sports seasons through at least May 4. Still, he works out through cross-training and uses his experience being separate from the team to get through this period of time.

“I’ve mainly been biking and strength training. [Strength training] is bodyweight and exercise for the entire body, so arms, core, legs, all of that. I haven’t been using much, I have two weights that I use sometimes and other than that, it’s bodyweight exercises. It’s all been at home.

I’ve been through [not practicing with the team] before. It’s really frustrating because you want to practice. I love competing and I love racing and I release my stress when I do that, but not being able to run, you can see everyone else improving and you’re just kind of there, not making much progress. It taught me to have patience and fight my own battles and don’t always be too concerned with other people’s progress.”
