“Honestly, for me, instead of Black History Month, I would love to see black history celebrated as American history. Not for the month of February, just whenever, as part of American history. So young people of all races, in particular young black people, can better understand some things they can be proud of and [what] some of their ancestors have accomplished. From the younger mindset of myself, it was always frustrating as a kid to only learn that black people were slaves. I felt like ‘we had to have done more’.”
