Yaamini Jois
Yaamini can’t drive. She rides her blue bike every day for her basically five-minute commute to school. She rides her bike to Starbucks. She rides it to the Cozby Library. But her little machine can’t take her much further than 20 minutes from the school campus.
That means that I drive her around. It was during these drives that we became the duo we are today.
On every excursion I’ve taken with Yaamini, I’ve learned something new. She’s semi-allergic to dairy. She’s a Frank Ocean fan. She’s eaten a raw tomato for fun before. But each time we go somewhere, there’s one thing that’s consistent: her bubbly personality.
Throughout her past two years in The Sidekick, Yaamini has been put through many stressful situations. Yet, each time she’s faced an obstacle, she’s turned it into something easily solvable, all with a devious smile on her face. This is how she works. Yes, she’s stressed at times, but she’ll never fail to crack a joke about something completely insignificant. She’ll see to the end that you are always feeling OK and ready to listen to another one of her uncalled-for stories.
This is how she’s made such an impact on our program. So many people go up to her just because of her friendly demeanor and her wide smile. Have a question that you need help with? Ask Yaamini, she’ll know how to help in some way or another. Need another pair of eyes to look over your writing? Ask Yaamini, she’ll look over it. And need someone to be there for you? Don’t worry, Yaamini already got that covered.
