Weird start for football season according to Lariettes

With last weeks rainy Highland Park game, and now having my first “road trip” to a football game, the past two weeks being a Lariette have been much different than normal.

Having last weeks football game delayed an hour because of rain was a new experience for the entire Lariette drill team. To pass time, the Lariettes and Highland Park Highland Belles all gathered in the big gym at CHS and had fun dancing and talking for an hour. Not only was this something new, but wearing our big black ponchos and sitting in the rain while watching the football game was not exactly normal either. Debating on whether or not to dance at halftime because we didn’t want to ruin our uniforms was the big discussion during the game. Deciding to dance worried some people, but slipping and sliding in our famous boots at half-time put the icing on the cake to a very weird but exhilarating night. Some girls, though, had to be home early in order to get good rest for the ACT the next morning, so we were allowed to leave after half-time.

This week, even though rain is not the issue, the estimated hour and a half bus ride is the new factor that is not something the Larittes are used to. Many are more excited than upset that we will get home later than normal, especially because we get to ride on charter buses rather than regular school buses. The senior Lariettes, the cheerleaders, and the Silver Spurs get to share a bus, which is also something different that we get to experience. We will get home later than normal, but it will be a fun and exciting Friday night along with the past two weeks that will definitely go down in Lariette history.
