The Coppell girls soccer team faces Irving tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at Buddy Echols Field.

The Cowgirls sit in third place in District 6-6A with a 7-3-1 record, having fallen to second place Flower Mound Marcus on Tuesday, 4-0.

“We didn’t start off strong but throughout the game, our intensity, our style of play went up,” Coppell senior midfielder Montse Lomeli said. “We started to pass the ball more, we had more possession than them, but they were just able to finish through.”

Practice this week focused on keeping control of the ball and shooting on target, according to Lomeli.

“We didn’t play bad, in my opinion; I thought we did pretty good, so our mindset as a team was to continue playing well like we did on Tuesday,” Lomeli said.

Irving (0-12-0) is last in rankings, having only won four matches in the preseason.

“They’re in the bottom three in district, but they’ll fight until the very end,” Lomeli said.

Though Irving is out of playoff contention, the opening still exists for the Cowgirls. Despite not being at the top, Coppell at the moment is in a qualifying spot, as the top four teams advance to playoffs.
