After a triumphant preseason for Cowgirl soccer, undefeated Coppell launches into the next phase of the season with its first District 6-6A match against Irving MacArthur at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Buddy Echols Field.

“MacArthur will be fighting for that fourth spot in the playoffs,” Coppell coach Ryan Dunlevy said. “They’ll be competing with Lewisville and a few other top programs. They’ve got some good players, so we want to make sure we execute our game plan. [Irving MacArthur’s] got a few players that have collectively scored 16 goals this year, so we’re going to make sure we know where those two players are at all times.”

Coppell will begin in 4-3-3 formation but looks to make modifications depending on MacArthur’s strategy. Coppell’s preseason ended in Georgetown at the Lady Governor’s Cup[Jan. 16-18], where the team took down everyone it faced, bringing its record to 6-0.

“We just got back from Georgetown which is always one of the best trips of the year,” Dunlevy said. “The girls love it, it’s always a time for us to come together as a team and get a little bit closer as well as play some tough competition. We played two teams out of the Houston area, both powerhouses, and beat both of them, and one of the best teams in San Antonio and beat them as well.”

Coppell beat Atascocita 3-0, Kingwood 4-0 and S A Johnson 3-1. The Cowgirls hope to keep their preseason momentum throughout district play and maintain their undefeated record on Friday night.

“We always find different pieces to focus on and improve as part of our pregame conversation and our game day board,” Dunlevy said. “For us, starting district off the right way and doing the little things right is the focus for Friday night.”
