After a dominant win on Friday against Irving MacArthur, 42-6, the Cowboys head into tonight’s game with momentum. Coppell (2-2) is back home to take on Hebron (3-1) for its second District 6-6A game this season at 7 p.m. at Buddy Echols Field.

With the return of Coppell senior quarterback Kevin Shuman to the lineup last week, the Cowboys were able to capitalize on the passing game. The offense was able to work on the play action, with Shuman connecting with Coppell senior running back Cam Williams for big receptions from the backfield.

“We focused on improving the play calling after the loss against Allen,” Coppell offensive coordinator Jay Jones said. “With the offense clicking as we progress through the season, we have plenty of different plays we can work with, to keep defense on edge.”

The defense was able to neutralize the opposing offense for the last two weeks, holding the nationally ranked Allen to 28 points and the Cardinals to six points. Also forcing pressure on the quarterback and preventing the big plays on defense.

“The team had a slow start on defense the first two weeks, but they have gelled,” Coppell defensive coordinator Justin Merchant said. “We take every team the same, and this game will be no different.”

The Cowboys are focusing on the bigger picture, as they look for a playoff berth.

“Shuman and I have developed a special connection,” Coppell  sophomore receiver Anthony Black said. “We are looking much better on both sides of the ball and the chemistry can be felt in every game.”

Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $8.
