Song of the Week: “Wow Thing”- Seulgi, SinB, Chungha and Soyeon

Following the rise of fourth-wave feminism, Korean music company SM delivers a new song that reflects the era in “Wow Thing”. With four of the most powerful female idols in the K-Pop industry delivering the song and lyrics that reflect the goals of the ambitious, confident woman in a man’s world, the song is perfect for anyone who is a strong believer in girl power.

“Wow Thing” brings a crossover like no other in the Korean music industry, with Red Velvet member Seulgi, GFriend member SinB, (G)I-dle member Soyeon and soloist Chungha. Seulgi, SinB and Chungha’s voices create a harmony that complements each others’ talents, especially in the chorus. Soyeon’s rap had me immediately dancing when I heard it.

Just as the song is a crossover of artists, it also is crossover of genres, with heavy jazz influences, such as scat, featured throughout the song, blending with the light beats of a standard pop song.

“Wow Thing” was released Sept. 28 on SM’s crossover project, STATION X 0, through streaming services, such as Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
