Jesse McCartney recorded and released his debut single and the lead single from his debut album Beautiful Soul at the end of 2004. The record eventually became the artist’s highest-certified album to this date. By mid-2006, the album had sold more than 1.5 million copies and reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. McCartney initially categorized the song as a “pop-record” with a twist of urban which deviates vastly from what pop music has become today. The song has a much more low-key beat compared to the music today but with the catchy rhythm, meaningful lines and the image of McCartney made him not only a teenage heartthrob but also one of the most recognized faces of pop music in the early 2000s.
