Students at Coppell High School may be surprised to hear the voices of fifth graders coming from the auditorium area today during school. These elementary students are here for CISD Elementary Honor Choir rehearsals and performance.

The district Honor Choir is made up of 10 fifth grade students from each Coppell elementary school who were selected through an audition process earlier this year. The group has been learning five songs over the school year  such as “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad” and are at the high school for a day of final rehearsals before their performance later this evening.

“They represent their respective campuses in a performing organization that also highlights some of the best young musicians in Coppell ISD,” Honor Choir organizer and CHS choir director Josh Brown said. “They [also] get to develop their singing technique and performance skills.”

During their day at CHS the elementary students will work with the middle and high school choir directors to perfect their songs which is the highest level of singing training many of them have ever received. They will also be treated to performances by various CHS choirs and gain a more professional experience with choir than they are used to.

The Honor Choir’s performance is tonight from 7-8 p.m. in the CHS auditorium.
