As the season winds down, the Coppell Cowboys are 4-4 and looking to take third in the Division 7 6-A standings. The Cowboys are facing the 4-4 Colleyville Heritage Panthers who are tied for third with Coppell in the standings this week and only the top four teams in the division advance to the playoffs. The Cowboys could clinch a playoff spot with a win against Colleyville or a Richland loss against Trinity. The Head Athletic Director Joe McBride feels confident about the team’s position.

“Well we’re not locked in yet, so there’s a lot of different scenarios that could happen but I like our chances,” McBride said.

The two most populated schools from the the four playoff teams are placed in Division one. If Coppell were to make the playoffs, they would be in Division one along with Euless Trinity. Coppell was beat by Trinity just a week ago which means Coppell would be the 2nd seed in Division one. Who the Cowboys would play, however, remains unknown. McBride discussed the possibilities of who the Cowboys would face.

“The determining factor of who we play from the other districts has not been set yet, It looks like it could be South Grand Prairie or it could be DeSoto, but our next couple of games will tell us that,” McBride said. The last two games of the season could be a lot more important than everyone thought, as they will decide the Cowboys opponent in the playoffs.
