The Coppell Cowgirls volleyball team (15-6) defeated the Grapevine Lady Mustangs (14-14) last night in a three game match at home.

The team started out with a strong lead following junior libero Lauren Lee’s seven point serving run. The team was working well together and maintained their lead with great defense and offense, largely allowing Grapevine to make their own mistakes. Grapevine’s multitude of unforced errors lead to a score of 25-13 for the first game.

The Cowgirls kept up their momentum going into the second game, once again pulling ahead in an early lead. With some outstanding kills from the two right side hitters, senior Kylie Hagen-Breitenwischer and sophomore Breanne Chausse, as well as from junior middle blocker Grace Heaton, Coppell kept a ten point lead for most of the game and finished with a score of 25-13 for the second game.

“I saw the block and used it to my advantage, swinging high into their block and tooling off of them and just playing smart,” said Chausse, “We communicated really well, we were relentless on defense and we executed offensively.”

In the third game, Coppell once again took an early lead, but lost their energy as Grapevine began to step up their game. Throughout the entire match Grapevine was struggling to catch up to Coppell, and with a score of 15-14, the Lady Mustangs were within one point of the Cowgirls. However, Coppell was able to reintroduce their disciplined defense from the previous games and pulled ahead, never allowing Grapevine to catch up to them. The final score of the third game was 25-20.

In their next matchup, the Coppell Cowgirls will play McKinney on Tuesday, September 8th at McKinney.
