Considering all the cookies

Satvika Ananth

Of all the things people can say “It’s that time of year again” for, my very favorite is the Girl Scout Cookie sales season. And that’s right folks. It’s that time of year again.

But for many, the ever-changing cookie roster causes some confusion. What are these strange new names that don’t fit the traditional mold? Here’s a quick run-down, followed by some recommendations.

Samoas: Shortbread covered with caramel and a layer of coconut, drizzled with chocolate.
Trefoils: Shortbread, clean and simple.
Thin Mints: A chocolate cookie surrounded by a chocolate-mint coating. Some describe it as pure bliss.
Tagalongs: Cookie surrounded by creamy peanut butter and chocolate.
Do-Si-Dos: Peanut butter sandwiched between two peanut butter cookies.
Lemon Chalet Cremes: Lemon creme sandwiched between shortbread cookies.
Thankyou Berry Munch: A cookie with cranberries baked into it.
Dulce de Leche: Super-sweet cookies with super-sweet chips baked into them.

As you may have noticed from my description, I’m a sucker for the originals. You really just can’t go wrong with a few thin mints crumbled over vanilla ice cream, or some trefoils with a hot drink.

If a Girl Scout hasn’t knocked on your door yet, check out http://www.texascookietime.com/cookies.html for information about where and how to get your cookies.
