After leaving Coppell for a year to become the head coach at Dripping Springs High School, Joe McBride was announced April 8 as the new athletics director for Coppell Independent School District.

In a press release from Dripping Springs Independent School District, McBride’s last day working for the district will be on April 13, the same day the Coppell Board of Trustees will vote him in at a special school board meeting.

McBride declined to comment because he is not officially the athletics director until he is voted in Monday night.

McBride led Dripping Springs to a 3-7 record and a 23-0 upset win over the eventual Class 5A District II state semi-finalist Cedar Park High School. He is remembered more for his five-year tenure at Coppell where he amassed a 51-10 record and three district titles in Class 5A.

In a letter to the Dripping Springs community, McBride stated that the athletics director position at Coppell was an opportunity “too big to pass up”.

Coach McBride to Leave DSISD

Joe McBride, athletic director and head football coach at Dripping Springs High School, has announced he will be leaving DSISD to accept the athletic director position at Coppell ISD, pending CISD Board approval at a special meeting scheduled for April 13, 2015.

McBride came to Dripping Springs in early 2014 following a successful five-year stint at Coppell High School. In one season at Dripping Springs High School, the Tigers were 3-7, which included a 23-0 win over eventual 5A Division II state finalist Cedar Park High School. At Coppell, his teams captured three 5A district titles, were area finalists twice (including 2013 season), and posted an overall record of 51-10. Prior to Coppell, McBride was head coach at Liberty High School in Frisco.

In a letter to the Dripping Springs community, Coach McBride said: “My experience here at Dripping Springs has truly impacted my life. Being around high quality kids, faculty, administration and community has made my time here something I’ll cherish the rest of my life.”

McBride’s last day at DSHS will be Monday, April 13. Dripping Springs ISD officials are determining the process that will be used to fill the position. Assistant Athletic Director Marisa Parks and Football Coordinators Steve Fex and Galen Zimmerman will cover McBride’s responsibilities temporarily.
