District golf update: Girls take home 4th consecutive title

Bringing home its fourth consecutive district championship, the Coppell Cowgirls’ golf team shot an impressive 310-307=617 over the two-day District 7-6A tournament held at Trophy Club Country Club on March 23 to 24.

All five girls on the title-winning red team are regional qualifiers and will represent Coppell at the Region I tournament at Rolling Hills Country Club in Arlington, Texas on April 13-16. The girls’ white team, composed of other varsity team members, finished fifth after shooting a (383-366 = 749).

Sophomore Grace Do was the district champion followed by senior Chaithra Katamneni, who finished second. Senior Sol Lee finished fifth overall. All three were named to the 1st team All District. Senior Payton Cupstid, freshman Janane Tan and junior Belle Tan were named to the 2nd team All District, while junior Sofia Alcala was named to the Honorable Mention All District Team.

The boys golf team did not advance to the regional tournament but the Varsity I team placed third, and the Varsity II team placed fifth behind scores of 295-312=607 and 328-338=666 respectively. The team had eight members place in the top 25 with sophomore Brian Choe finishing the highest in ninth place behind a score of 74-75=149.

Choe and sophomore Andrew Lindberg will both represent Coppell as individual qualifiers at the Region I boys tournament at Waterchase Golf Club in Arlington, Texas on April 13-16. The duo also were named to the 2nd team All District team. and junior Noah Fuselier and sophomore Max Pius were named to the Honorable Mention All District team.
