This past month, the Coppell Police Department sent two K-9 teams to the United States Police Canine Association Region 25 trials in Abilene, TX during the week of March 24 – 30. This event was hosted by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office and co-hosted by the Abilene Police Department.
Of the 23 K-9 teams in the region that participated in this event, officer Rhett Mathews and his K-9 partner “Spyke” placed 1st in narcotics detection along with officer Robert Kubicek and his K-9 partner “Max” at 5th place behind them. Both teams were also certified in patrol work; which included different categories such as: obedience, agility, searching, criminal apprehension and recall.
Captain Tony Pletcher, Patrol Division Commander commented: “The two K-9 teams have proven to be a valuable asset not only to the Coppell Police Department and citizens of Coppell, but also to neighboring communities whose police departments frequently call on them for assistance. We are very proud of their hard work and accomplishments.”
