Engineering Expo draws huge crowds

The STEM Academy at Coppell High School hosted its fifth annual Engineering Expo on Sunday. People filled the Commons from 2 to 5 p.m. to learn more about engineering and observe displays and exhibitions prepared by Coppell STEM students.

There were workshops being presented for visitors of all ages and areas of expertise. The FIRST Robotics Team even demonstrated a mock Lego League event for children at the Expo. Topics covered by the various displays ranged from Ruben’s Tubes to Hybrid Trucks.

18 companies and 43 colleges also hosted booths at the event, including prestigious engineering schools such as MIT and innovative corporations such as IBM and General Motors.

The keynote speaker was engineer and inventor Romelia Flores, who discussed the Smarter Planet Initiative and then allowed spectators to play Jeopardy with a supercomputer named Watson.

Over 2000 people attended the 2012 Engineering Expo on November 4, as the parking lots filled up and had to be roped off. The event was another smashing success for CHS’ rapidly growing STEM Academy.
