Tonight, or to be more specific, tomorrow morning is the premiere of the highly anticipated Hunger Games film. The hallways of CHS have been buzzing for weeks about the release of the film and the day is finally here.

The Hunger Games is set in an alternate universe after the destruction of North America in a nation known as Panem. Panem consists of a wealthy Capitol surrounded by 12 poorer districts. As punishment for a previous rebellion against the Capitol in which a 13th district was destroyed one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by annual lottery to participate in the Hunger Games, an event in which the participants, known as tributes, must fight in an outdoor arena controlled by the capitol until only one remains. The story follows 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, the female tribute who volunteers in place of her younger sister, and 16-year-old Peeta Mellark, the male tribute.  The tributes are trained before being released into the playing ring where they have to battle to the death.

The film stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, and Liam Hemsworth as Gale, Katniss’ best friend. It also stars Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland. It is rated PG-13 and is 2 hours and 22 minutes long.
