Dual Credit students revv up for midterms

By Luciana Mendes
Staff Writer

As the winter holidays are nearing, dual-credit students are preparing for their course midterms at North Lake Community College on Tuesday, October 20 and Thursday, October 22.

Though it may seem early by high school standards, this is regular midterm week for most colleges and universities.

While the semester is coming to an end at North Lake, Coppell is keeping up its pace. Coppell High School students will be receiving second six weeks progress reports after dual-credit students finish their finals Midterms exams at North Lake

Fortunately for dual-credit students, semester finals at North Lake will take place on from Dec. 8 and Dec. 10. In comparison, CHS does not even begin semester exams until two weeks after the winter holiday break.

“Hopefully the split between North Lake finals and CHS finals will have a positive impact on the students course work here at the high school,” counselor Mindy McMinn said. “Taking their dual-credit finals now will give them more time to focus later when it’s time to take their finals at Coppell.”

Early finals give dual-credit students extra time off of their North Lake courses. Don’t be fooled by the long break though; students are studying hard to ace their exams. However, the long break is worth all the hard work and stress of dual credit students North Lake courses.

“I teach my class like any mainstream college course,” U.S. History professor Dr. Bill Stowe said. “My dual-credit class is not watered down a bit, it requires thinking-not remember and regurgitate. These students are exceptional- they would not be taking dual-credit if they weren’t.”

Good luck dual-credit students!
