2011 fall CHS musical announced, to be Beauty and the Beast

Ashleigh Heaton
Editor-in-Chief

Last night, May 22, at the annual drama banquet, Theatre Department Head Lisa Tabor announced the fall musical for next year, which will be Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle, a bookworm seeking adventure living in provincial France, and the Beast, a prince who was cursed by an enchantress after he turned her away in the rain, making him appear in a monstrous form and transforming his servants in to various household objects. In order for the Beast and his servants to return to their human form, he must learn to give and receive love before the last petal falls on his enchanted rose – and Belle just might be the girl to break the spell.

The musical adaptation of the Disney animated film of the same name roughly follows the movie, with a few variations in musical numbers and script. The show is both fun and demanding for actors, as everyone will be expected to sing, act and, for the first time at CHS in awhile, dance.

Auditions for the show will be held within the first two weeks of the 2011-2012 school year, so those wishing to be a part of this Broadway hit might want to start preparing over their summer break. To help potential cast members prepare for auditions, Tabor will be hosting an annual musical workshop, in which hopefuls can run through audition songs with the musical director, work scenes with Tabor and get direct feedback on their acting, as well as work the choreography they will be taught at auditions. The workshop will be held on August 6 and 13. For more information, talk to Tabor.
