At the grand opening on Oct. 25 at 10 a.m., Playa Bowls Coppell drew in a large crowd, with a line stretching along the sidewalk. As customers entered, the Williams family sported a warm smile and offered their menu recommendations.
“This morning has been amazing,” Playa Bowls co-owner Shannon Williams said. “We had a line down to the end of the shopping center, people were excited to be here and we still have a line out the door. We really feel welcomed by the Coppell community.”
The first 50 customers received a free Playa Bowls T-shirt and açaí bowl as part of a larger giveaway worth over $750 in prizes in the week leading up to the event.
With their innovative take on seasonal items, Playa Bowls stands apart, offering a refreshing new option to Coppell residents with their new location.
Primarily serving açaí bowls and smoothies, they offer standard flavors such as açaí, mango, pitaya, coconut, kale, banana and oatmeal. Their seasonal flavors break away from the season’s pumpkin spice craze, with a peanut butter and jelly flavor.
“We like to mix it up in terms of what we offer for limited edition items,” Williams said. “This year we decided to do PB&J to put a different spin on a fall special, and it’s been received well at other locations.”
As for the PB&J smoothie bowl, it features an açaí base alongside fruit and peanut butter toppings. The bowl has a fresh taste with various, complementing textures. For the cost, it provides a well-sized portion with a generous helping of each topping.
With more than 20 years of experience in accounting and finance, Williams brings experience and passion to the Coppell opening.
“My past experiences have been very transferable,” Williams said.
The Williams selected Coppell for its family values and welcoming spirit.
“I love this community, and it’s a great turnout this morning,” co-owner Michael Willaims said. “We hired from the community, we serve the community and we hope to do more events for the community in the future.
Onsite, Playa Bowls New Store Opening (NSO) marketing team members helped with the giveaways and setup, recording content for social media.
“This grand opening is going super well, and that’s just the community supporting the community,” NSO marketing team member Chloe Guzmand said. “There are so many schools around and it’s perfect for students to stop by after games or practices.”
Among those students was Coppell High School junior Reem Riyadh, one of the early customers to receive a free smoothie bowl and T-shirt.
“The environment was great — there was music playing and balloons everywhere, and everyone was enjoying themselves,” Riyadh said. “I’m definitely coming back.”
CHS senior Richaa Rajesh was the 52nd customer and a new Playa Bowls employee.
“It’s so cool how everything is made in front of you,” Rajesh said. “I would definitely come back as a customer because the food was good and tasted fresh.”
With seven bases, smoothies, juices, cold brews and cold-pressed juices to choose from, the menu caters to a variety of customers.
As Playa Bowls settles into Coppell, the turnout and energy of its opening day signals that it could be a new staple spot for locals.
