Dear future superintendent of Coppell ISD,
The school year is coming to a close, but news impacting students is abundant. Shaking the district, Superintendent Dr. Brad Hunt announced his retirement, effective at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
Dr. Hunt is known for his smile, personality and ability to spread joy. But most of all, his care for everyone and everything around him. Whether it be showing up to sporting events or fine arts performances, he is always there to support staff and students. As students, his presence in our community makes us feel important and valued.
He is always around and ready to support students. Regardless of campus or grade, Dr. Hunt is willing to get to know us. Meeting new people in the hallways and asking questions making people feel seen, heard and understood, he has made the biggest impact.
Working in public education for 35 years, where he has been a teacher at Coppell High School, assistant principal at Coppell Middle School West and CHS principal, and as of 2017 a superintendent, he has grown close to our district in ways we could have never imagined. He has learned what truly matters to students and how to support us through school from pre-K through 12th grade.
Dr. Hunt values us as students but also as future leaders, journalists, athletes and, most of all, people. He has always fought to retain and create opportunities to benefit students, regardless of where they stand in our district.
With budget cuts affecting various groups, Dr. Hunt has sought to continue student strengthening programs and more through rooting for Career and Technical Education programs and athletics; he worked to save organizations that build our future.
Student leadership programs, such as iLead and Red Jackets, were started by him to help create a sense of community and help us grow; helping lead us through projects and a thought out curriculum. Dr. Hunt constantly works with his own team to meet with groups around the district to get to know them and acknowledge them for their hard work and dedication making videos to spread details about them.
Whether it is CTE programs, club leaderships or district internships, Dr. Hunt has always worked to make resources and opportunities available to students and bring out our full potential, enhancing their chance of success in their future.
Dr. Hunt always has a place in the heart of Coppell and its students. He has continued to support us through everything, even behind the scenes.
To whomever comes after Dr. Hunt, we hope you find your place in our district and can hold the same values to your heart as he did before you. That you can love our district and school as your own and support our students through everything. That you can value every student and every opportunity for us within the district, while fighting for opportunities to help us grow and succeed.
We know stepping into Dr. Hunt’s shoes is no easy task. We hope you remember leadership isn’t just about policies and procedures; it’s about presence. It is about advocating for programs that may not have the loudest voices, but have the biggest impact.
We ask you to lead with curiosity and to recognize that every student walking through our halls has a story worth protecting. Keeping our student body in mind while making decisions will create a bond of trust in a community that believes in the power of education to change lives.
