Coppell senior first baseman Troy Hill rounds first base against Hebron on Wednesday at Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex. The Hawks defeated the Cowboys, 4-1, in the first District 5-6A game.
It’s the bottom of the fifth inning, and the Coppell baseball team trails Hebron four runs. The Cowboys look to rally as junior infielder Troy Hill steps up to the plate. Hill, with the focus of the crowd on him, sends a sharp ground ball to deep right field, bringing in a run and narrowing the deficit.
On Wednesday night, however, Hill’s RBI was the only run the Cowboys could muster as it lost its District 5-6A opener, 4-1, to Hebron at Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex. The Hawks controlled the game, capitalizing on opportunities while limiting Coppell’s offense.
Hebron took an early lead in the second inning with an RBI by Hebron infielder Adam Alvarez, making the score 3-0. Hebron out hit Coppell, 7-2.
By the fourth inning, Hebron expanded its lead 4-0. Coppell, with key defensive plays remained fighting behind outfielder Carson Broom’s crucial running catches to record Hebron outs.
However, despite these efforts Coppell wasn’t able to produce a comeback, as Hebron’s pitching and defense held strong.
Despite the loss, Coppell praises Hebron for its strong play.
“They played well, their pitcher threw three strikes and executed it,” Coppell assistant Christian Boulware said. “I think if we go in and play our game, execute a little bit more with runners in scoring position, I think we’ll see a different outcome than what we saw tonight.”
Coppell plays at Hebron at 7 p.m.
