Fantasy Football Updates

I sat down Monday night to watch the Indianapolis Colts battle the Miami Dolphins. I needed one thing to happen for my first two fantasy weekends to be a perfect 6-0. It was simple.

Usually when you play fantasy you’re looking for one player to have nice stats but the other team to win, more complex. But I just wanted Dallas Clark to score less than 11 points, a measly request to the fantasy Gods. I figured since they had already given Chris Johnson and Frank Gore owners wonderful days, why not grant a not-so-good night for the Colts’ tight end?

Ok, back to Monday, I set down just in time for kickoff. The Colts get the ball first, and knee it in the end zone. As I take one bite out of my (delicious) Taco Bell burrito, I watch Clark sprint down the field 80 yards for a touchdown. Game over, I lose. I immediately looked down at my burrito and said, “Did that really just happen?” In a word, YES.

Here are a few notes and things from this past weekend in the NFL relating to fantasy.

Randy Moss was shut down. Two words — Darrelle Revis. All the New York Jets have to do is put Revis on Moss. Revis is a stud. Even though Moss said after the game it wasn’t the Revis, it was the coverage. He’s full of it. This is worth noting when the Jets play New England next time around.

Leon Washington is an every week flex play in 12 team leagues. He has 35 touches in two games, he’s on pace for 280. Last year he only had 123. Thomas Jones owners are in trouble because he’s not the legitimate number one back on the Jets.

Bruce Gradkowski would be an upgrade over JaMarcus Russell. Seriously, Russell is a stiff. He’s 19 for 54 and has a 46.8 quarterback rating through his first two games.

It will take Bernard Berrian a while to get into a rhythm with Brett Favre. They haven’t had a ton of time to practice together with Favre not being in camp and Berrian’s injury. A few weeks I’d say. Don’t drop him but I’d look for someone like Nate Burleson or Justin Gage on the waiver wire.

Patrick Crayton may not have value after all. And if he does, he’s not reliable or consistent enough. The Cowboys are spending the ball too much to know much guy will get the big play. On that same note, I’m really not buying Miles Austin at all; he had just one catch (one target).

Dustin Keller will be a top 10 tight end at season’s end. Quarterback Mark Sanchez looked his way quite a bit against Houston and he’s great at accumulating yards after catch.

Who knew Cedric Benson had this much in him. He ran for 141 yards on a sprained ankle. If you look at his schedule though, it’s not favorable. Possible sell high candidate in trades.

If you have any specific questions about your team, praise me for something I got right or tell me how I cost you a win, leave a comment (recommended) or email me at [email protected] or my school email [email protected] (also recommended).
