Coppell High School sophomore Rudhmila Hoque has been elected as the 2023-24 Student Council vice president. Hoque plans to implement ideas to improve dress up days and social events.

Vice president: Rudhmila Hoque

Coppell High School sophomore and 2023-24 Student Council vice president Rudhmila Hoque has been an involved member of the student body for quite some time. In her past years on student council, she has served as secretary and sophomore class representative

What are the roles of the vice president?

The vice president meets with the other officers, helps conduct meetings and does whatever is set up in the student leadership class. Mr. Stroud told us we should all work on this all together, we don’t have our separate things to do, we are all in this together.

How long ago did the idea to run occur to you?

I have been an officer for two years now, next year will be the third. The first time this idea of running occurred to me was in 9th grade when one of my friends was running, and she convinced me to also run, and I won secretary. Ever since then, I’ve been running and I’ve been getting it, I’m really thankful.

What about the role of vice president interested you?

I’ve always wanted to work closely with the president. I know her and she seems really fun. I’ve also already done secretary and I felt like I wanted something more because secretary wasn’t really my calling. I ran for vice president because that was the only other slot available.

What about student council interests you?

We should really tie a close bond with our administration and our student body to help better student life. I want to be the middleman in there helping that relationship form and grow.

What do you admire about the current leadership?

We did a lot of toy drives and charity work. We also had a lot of social events like homecoming and prom, student council is just very present in everyday student life. I also liked our dress up days because it got the students excited to come here everyday.

How do you want to build on that in the coming year?

I want to continue the dress up days because I participate in them myself and  find them really fun. I also want to take whatever feedback we get from prom and homecoming and I’d like to implement that. I want to improve on that and make them better even though they’re already amazing. I’d also want to implement more things that people are telling me about like if there is a charity someone wants to support I’d try to pitch the idea to the team.

Is student government related to something you want to do in your future?

No, I’m not interested in government but I just really want to help out the student community but in the future I plan on doing computer science. I feel like computer science is a lot of problem solving and communication because a lot of the projects that you will do are with a team so I definitely think that it will help me in my career.
