Coppell High School sophomore Ian Sullivan has been elected as Healthcare Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Club reporter. This will be Sullivan’s first position in his two years with the club.

What are the roles of the reporter?

I manage our image and social media. I record what our club is doing.

What about the role of reporter interested you?

I’ve been in HOSA for two years now, and I really like the club. I wanted to run in ninth grade, but I didn’t have as much motivation as I do now. I saw the Instagram page and what the previous reporter [Sunya Ajani] did, and I wanted to be a part of that and build on that. It would also keep me accountable because I want to improve my writing and camera work.

How did your journey in healthcare start?

In seventh grade, I was watching Medicurio and the guy on there gave a shout out to this other medical channel, and I checked it out. I really liked those videos and what they were about. There was one about caffeine and how it affects the body, and it really hooked me in. Ever since then I’ve known that I definitely want to be in medicine, and, right now, I’m leaning more towards research.

Why do you think people voted for you?

I tried to make my video less formal. I added jokes in there, and I wanted it to feel more human and less like a press release. I don’t know if that’s the reason that they picked me, but that’s what I’d like to think. I’m really grateful for everyone who voted for me and the opportunity that I have. It meant a lot to me because I really wanted this position.

What do you admire about the current leadership?

It takes a lot of responsibility to be a leader and have that maturity. In my personal life, I want to be more disciplined and taking on this role would be a great way to improve in that aspect.

How do you want to build on what they have accomplished?

I want to incorporate more video content. Shooting videos happens to be one of my hobbies. I take a lot of videos of my friends and I make joke edits, I get a lot of enjoyment out of doing it. What I have seen is mostly photos and writing but with me being in KCBY-TV, I want to do more and diversify more with our content.
