On Wednesday night, the Coppell softball team was defeated by Hebron, 4-2, at the Coppell ISD Baseball/Softball Complex.

The game started slow with neither team being able to score any runs for the first two innings.

However, Coppell was able to advance during the third inning. The action began with Coppell senior left fielder Sabina Frosk’s single. From there, a hit from Coppell junior shortstop Mallory Moore advanced Frosk to third base before senior first baseman Emily Fishchetti’s RBI scored Frosk, giving the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead.

Coppell sophomore second baseman Natalie Howell’s RBI scored junior Talli Sadler to give the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.

However, Hebron came back during the fifth inning with a run scored by Hebron freshman Elizabeth Cordona to get within one run.

“We made a few errors tonight that proved a little costly,” Coppell coach Kim LeComte said. “Offensively, there were things that we did better tonight than in the past so we just want to keep growing.”

Hebron closed the Cowgirls’ lead in the sixth inning after senior Shorey Nguyen scored to tie the game at 2. Hebron senior Zoe Bowen scored a second run for the Hawks soon after Nguyen. The sixth inning ended with the Hawks leading 3-2.

The seventh inning solidified the Hawks’ win over Coppell after they were able to score another run while Coppell was unable to advance again.

The Cowgirls play at Flower Mound on Saturday at 1 p.m.

“It’s good competition,” Coppell senior catcher Medleigh  Danchak said. “We’re playing our head coach from last year so I think we’re all just really excited to come out and give Flower Mound our best.”
