On Friday, the Coppell tennis team won against Houston Clear Brook, 16-3.

The boys and girls doubles won all games. The mixed doubles match was a close one, but Coppell ultimately lost with a score of 6-3 6-4.

“Allyson [Keng] did a great job of staying close to that second set,” Coppell tennis coach Anthony Smith said. “We had opportunities where [Clear Brook was] tougher down the stretch.”

Coppell freshman Gabby Rice won, 8-4, in singles and won, 6-1, 6-2, with freshman Lexi Patton.

“We communicate with things like changeovers, specifically setting each other up for the net.” Rice said.

Coppell sophomore Sarayu Thallapareddy and senior Lakshana Parasuraman won, 6-1 6-2.

“We did well on the return to baseline with each other,” Thallapareddy said. “I would set up the perfect volley so she could get the point.”

Coppell senior Shereef Kamel and junior Mohit Kansara snagged an easy victory through their practiced experience as partners.

“I’ve played with Mohit for the last two years, so we’ve tried a lot of things,” Kamel said. “Tonight we did what we normally do and kept it simple.”

The team hopes to take the momentum into their next matches.

“We want to take the aggression that we showed today and keep that on Tuesday,” Kamel said.

The Coppell tennis team plays Hebron on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Coppell High School Tennis Center.
