Adrenaline rushes through the air, with one final point needed for Coppell to win the match. Coppell junior setter and opposite hitter Mira Klem spikes the ball and scores a kill, a victorious moment for the Cowgirls.

Coppell ended the day in a 25-10, 26-24, 25-27 and 25-17 victory against Rockwall on Friday at CHS Arena.

Coppell was quick to win the first set but struggled to keep its pace during the second set. The Yellowjackets and Cowgirls fought neck and neck, with scores of 23-23, 24-24 and lastly 26-24 due to the match point tip by Klem.

“The girls fought back,” Coppell coach Robyn Ross said. “They had to come back from being down 16-21 in that second set. That is a pretty hard deficit to come back from [when] the other team is already in the 20s. They did a great job staying with it and coming back.”

The struggle, however, continued during the third set as Rockwall took the lead.

“We didn’t serve-receive as well,” Ross said. “They had some great servers and that took us out of our offense a little bit.”

Tension rose from the crowd as Rockwall junior middle blocker. Ava Weigand’s block tied the score at 24-24. A kill by Weigand secured the match for Rockwall and play continued.

The Cowgirls were able to gain their momentum back on the fourth and final set of the match, defeating Rockwall 25-17.

“We had a lot of good blocks and a lot of plays that really helped us push through for energy and finish the game,” Coppell senior middle blocker Allie Stricker said.

According to Ross, Stricker and Coppell senior defensive specialist Sabina Frosk were the two difference makers in the match.
