Fresh faces were spotted on the starting line-up against McKinney Boyd on the court at the CHS Arena on Tuesday, most notably senior middle blocker Ekwe Anweh.  According to first-year Coppell coach Robyn Ross, Anweh has DNA working to her advantage and just needed to learn how to utilize it to score points on the court.

Coppell defeated McKinney Boyd, 25-11, 25-15, 16-25, 25-17.

“Nobody maybe remembered [Anweh]  from last year or expected her to be one of our big go to hitters there in the front row,”  Ross said. “She did a great job.”

By running a fastpaced offense, Anweh and senior Allie Stricker were utilized with Anweh having 12 kills and Stricker with 11 kills.

Coppell lost the third set  with McKinney Boyd outside hitters Carson Eickenloff and sophomore Ariah Augustine scoring several points.

In order to bring energy to the fourth set, Ross put in junior opposite hitter Mira Klem as a new blocker on the front row and had senior setter Taylor Young set from the back row so that there were three hitters in the front at all times.

“It gave us a little bit of a stronger block against their outside hitters who were scoring points,” Ross said. I’m super proud of them and excited to see what they do this season.”
