Denton-based artist Russ Connell welded Red Pony, a vivid steel sculpture that now is on display in Old Town Coppell. There are several sculptures throughout Coppell whose artists and origins are relatively unknown, but these artworks all share one thing: a home in Coppell. Photo by Shrayes Gunna

Red Pony

Red Pony is a painted steel sculpture welded by Denton-based artist Russ Connell. The piece has called Old Town Coppell home for more than six years and was introduced to the city as a part of the Coppell Arts Council’s Art Splash project, a biennial art exhibition that takes place in Old Town and Andy Brown Park East. Standing seven feet, Red Pony is a poignant and prominent work marking Connell’s introduction to publicly exhibited artwork, more of which can now be found around Coppell’s parks.
