Eager anticipation builds as the Coppell girls basketball team will showcase its hard work on familiar territory.

Tonight, the Cowgirls will play their first home game of the season against Frisco Centennial, tip off at 6:30 p.m., at the CHS Arena.

“I’m looking forward to playing with my team at home for the first time this year,” Coppell junior guard Waverly Hassman said. “I’m very nervous but excited for the first home game of the season. However, I just want the team to play well together and pull out a win. [Frisco Centennial] doesn’t pressure very much on defense and only has a three-fourths press. If we play as well and compete as hard as we had in practice, we should win.”

Since the last scrimmage against Rockwall Heath, the team has worked on developing defensively as well as full court press. Hassman thinks the team has made significant improvement since last year.

“I am very excited for this game,” senior forward India Howard said. “I feel like I’ve been waiting for the season forever. I miss playing with my team. It’s time to show the work we’ve put in.”
