At its Tuesday meeting, the Coppell City Council presented the Parks and Recreation Department its 2021 Gold Medal Award from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

“Part of the reason we live in this community is things such as this,” Place 3 councilman Don Carroll said. “The shoulders that we now stand on have led up to this type of award. It’s a testament to the city that we have arrived at.”

The Parks and Recreation Department staff were celebrated along with the Coppell Municipal Court staff, who were present for the declaration of Nov. 1-5 as “Municipal Court Week.”

The council postponed deliberation on the contested City of Coppell’s Elected and Appointed Officials’ Social Media policy.

Four considerations were approved: awarding a bid of to Felix Construction to reconstruct the Sandy Lake Lift Station; a bid to Clark Electric Inc. for the supply and installation of new standby electric generator; a bid for city-wide heating, ventilation, and air conditioning maintenance services contract to TD Industries; and renewal of the USIC Line Locating Services contract.

In the open forum, two speakers brought up the topic of “Hinduphobic hate speech” in neighboring city council meetings and urged the council to prevent such speakers in Coppell.
