After consecutive losses to Flower Mound, Marcus and Hebron, the Coppell volleyball team scored a triumphant win.

The Cowgirls rose against Plano match, winning all three sets with a final score of 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-21), at the CHS Arena on Friday.

This win can be credited to the overall spirit and unity of the team.

“We played really well as a team, and we had good energy all together,” CHS junior Allie Stricker said. “[With] Hebron, we didn’t keep the ball a lot, but this game we kept the ball on our side. We pushed [for] points a lot earlier in the game besides [waiting] until the end.”

The first two sets were easy victories for the Cowgirls, winning by 12 and 9 points respectively. The third set, on the other hand, was extremely close, with the Cowgirls slowing down and the Wildcats revealing their true strengths.

“We did have some areas where we let our play drop,” Coppell coach Libby Pacheco said. “There was a dramatic difference between the second and third sets. That’s what let [Plano] stay involved in the game.”

Nevertheless, CHS was able to finish off the third set strong, with the help of strong offensive plays. CHS senior Aley Clent’s powerful kills and constant blocks helped the Cowgirls defeat the Wildcats.

“A lot of the stuff that we have been doing in practice has been paying off, especially the footwork and transitioning, [which could be seen] in the game,” Clent said. “I worked on pressing and blocking today and I want to keep that up throughout the rest of the season”

The offense was led by Clent with 10 kills, closely followed by CHS senior Abby Hendricks and Stricker each with seven kills. CHS junior Taylor Young had 30 assists.

The Cowgirls are to play Lewisville on Tuesday, at the CHS Arena. The match starts at 6:30 p.m.
