Playing four matches a week to make up for those missed during pauses in District 6-6A play due to inclement weather and COVID-19 concerns, the Coppell girls soccer team’s weariness is beginning to show.

“It has really affected us physically with all the fatigue,” Coppell senior midfielder Jojo Alonzo said. “But we’re a strong group of girls and we’ll continue to push through. We are hydrating more, constantly having nutrition in our body and just getting lots of rest.”

Currently sitting in fourth in district standings, Coppell hopes to regain its missing execution against Lewisville, as it has many matches left. According to Alonzo, that just means more opportunities to move up.

But tonight, Coppell has its Senior Night against Lewisville at 7 p.m. at Buddy Echols Field. Just this week, Coppell lost to Plano West and tied with Plano, two teams which it had previously defeated 1-0 and 5-0.

“We beat them 4-1 last time we played them and after the results from earlier this week our team is looking to score a lot of goals,” Coppell senior defender Maya Ozymy said. “We have been playing really good soccer these last two games; unfortunately the results don’t show that, so I think we are really just looking to put the ball in the back of the net and do it quickly.”
