Coming off of its overtime win against Lewisville 70-65, Coppell hosts Plano East on Tuesday night with tip off at 8 p.m. in the CHS Arena.
After beating Plano East (10-9, 5-5 in District 6-6A) in the first round of district, 60-54, Coppell (15-2, 9-1) returns home as the first seed in district and hopes to continue the title push.
“[Coach Clint Schnell] tells us that ‘every game is the biggest game of the year, just on a different night,’ so we go into each game with that mindset in order to achieve what we want to achieve,” Coppell junior shooting guard Devank Rane said. “This year our goal is winning another district title and moving on to the playoffs.”
Before each game, the coaches come up with a different strategy that caters to the team they are going up against. By knowing the strengths and weaknesses of each player on Plano East, Coppell goes into this game prepared. The coaches design drills based on the Panthers’ past performances so that, in the game, none of the players are caught off guard.
A win puts the Cowboys one step closer to its third consecutive district title.
“Before this upcoming game, I would tell my teammates that we know what we are capable of and we need to prove that every game,” Rane said.
