After an almost spotless preseason, barring a 2-1 defeat to Grapevine, the Coppell girls soccer team opens District 6-6A play at Buddy Echols Field against Plano at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.

“We had a great preseason, won [most of] our games and scored a lot of goals which was good for our confidence,” Coppell senior midfielder Maya Ozymy said. “I don’t want to say we’re going into this game against Plano expecting a win but we’re going to play like we always do.”

Having a strong chemistry between the midfielders and forwards in the preseason, Coppell’s offense has excelled, scoring 37 goals compared to the eight scored against them.

“Our combinations between our three forwards and midfielders are what scores us a lot of goals,” Ozymy said.

Coppell heads into its match against Plano (7-1) with little to no scouting, more focused on its own play, specifically its shooting placement.

“We always try to play our game before we adjust to someone else’s, we play possession based soccer to move fast and go quickly,” Ozymy said.“We’re trying to play our game and make them adjust to us.”

After its match against Southlake Carroll, in which they scored seven goals against a team that beat them in the playoffs just two years ago, Coppell enters district play full of confidence.

“We’re expecting us to go out and play like we played against [Carroll],” Ozymy “If we can play like that every single game, I have no doubt that we can place first in district this year.”
