In Case You Didn’t Know: Top 3 News Highlights of the Week

1. The earthquake in Haiti – On Tuesday, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. The devastation of this natural disaster is evident, however, the lasting effects of it are still being assessed. The death toll is projected to be in the hundreds of thousands, though no distinct number has as of yet been solidified. In addition, thousands of Haitians as well as Americans are missing. Communication lines are down and thus word out is preventing many from contacting their loved ones. This is a tragedy.

2. Pat Robertson’s comments in relation to the earthquake in Haiti – Televangalist Pat Robertson has made headlines with his recent accusations that the earthquake in Haiti was prompted by their “pact with the devil.” I am disgusted by this inhumane response. Moreover, Robertson claims that the Haitians sold their soul to the devil when they sought freedom from France back in the time of “Napoleon III and whatever.” I will refrain some commenting anymore on this horrendous example of a man, if not, profanity is bound to come out.

3. Jay Reatard dies at 29 – It was a sad day for many in the music world yesterday as underground sensation Jay Reatard was found dead in his home. Reatard was revered for many of his crazy stage antics and classics such as “My Shadow” and “It Ain’t Gonna Save Me.”
