Holiday recipes bring back happy memories

The holidays are here, and what is a holiday without desserts? If you are hosting a party, or simply just making something yummy for yourself, these recipes will satisfy your holiday needs.

My first choice, partially because I am a popcorn addict and partially because peppermint is the perfect holiday flavor, is peppermint popcorn bark. For this crunchy snack you need:

-5 cups of popped popcorn

-12 ounces of white chocolate chips

-1 cup peppermint candy, crushed

Before you can divulge, you need to melt the chocolate. M

elt the chocolate on the stove in a pot. After the chocolate is a smooth texture you pour the peppermint pieces over the melted chocolate and mix them in. Pour the popcorn in a bowl, and then pour the chocolate and peppermint over it. Allow popcorn to cool. Your festive treat is ready to be eaten.

My grandma knew how to make a mean batch of oatmeal cookies. Thankfully she wrote the recipe down, so now even though she is gone we can still enjoy her cookies and remember what a loving grandma and mom she was. To make these yummy cookies you need:

– 1 cup shortening

– 1 cup brown sugar

unnamed-1

– 2 beaten eggs

– 1 teaspoon vanilla

– 1 ½ cups sifted flour

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1 teaspoon baking soda

– 3 cups quick oats

– 1 ½ cups nuts

Mix in order given. Form dough in long rolls and wrap in wax paper. Chill in refrigerator. Cut ½” thick. Bake at 350 for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
