Wolves end Coppell bid for fourth straight lacrosse title

    It just wasn’t enough.

Coppell’s furious rally to get to within two goals in the last two minutes went for naught, as Plano West upset the Cowboys in their first round matchup, 6-4.

Senior midfielder Chase Porter started the scoring off with a bang, leading to an early 1-0 lead. Not long after, sophomore Dillon Braun’s pretty pass to junior Henry Busch extended the lead to two. But the Wolves would counter with six unanswered goals to complicate the game.

Within the last two minutes, junior midfielder Tommy McClenahan scored the second of two goals to pull the Cowboys within two. With 1:26 left in the fourth quarter, senior Porter took two shots that were just wide of the goal.

Wolves goalie Alec Douglas stopped every shot that came his way, while sophomore Cowboy goalie Jonathan Ferree seemed susceptible early.

Nobody expected this game to be an upset on any front. Coppell had beaten the Wolves 9-4 in their first meeting back in March, so this was slated beforehand as an easy win.

The Cowboys gave the fans a great season, finishing 10-3 overall and 5-3 in district. While Plano West rushed the field, all of the seniors reflected on what could have been.

“It is sad that it has to end,” senior midfielder Jesse Rehling said.
