Full Count Special Report: 21st perfect game in MLB history thrown in Seattle

By Ben Cowlishaw

Philip Humber of the Chicago White Sox has just thrown the 21st perfect game, the 3rd in White Sox history to the Seattle Mariners in a 4-0 win.

Humber had nine strike outs, five ground outs, and thirteen fly outs to retire all 27 batters in a row.

The last perfect game before Humber’s was thrown in 2010 by Roy Halladay, 20 days after Dallas Braden threw the nineteenth perfect game. He was almost joined by Armando Galarraga, who threw the infamous “imperfect game” after the 27th batter was incorrectly called safe by umpire Jim Joyce a mere five days after Halladay’s perfect game.

###

The Rangers won their first game of a double-header earlier this afternoon after scoring eight runs in the first inning in Detroit. They have the best record and fewest runs allowed in the majors, and are enjoying the lowest ERA and most runs scored in the American League. Texas is yet to lose on the road after sweeping the Twins and the Red Sox. Neftali Feliz pitches the second game of the day, third of the series tonight against 2011 MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander, who threw a no-hitter last year.

The regular post of Full Count will resume Monday.
