International Baccalaureate students go to Goatman’s Bridge

The legend of Goatman’s Bridge: Goatman’s Bridge holds an elaborate history that was established in  1884. Oscar Washburn, an African-American goat farmer, lived in the area of what is now Denton, TX. After Mr.Washburn displayed a sign by the bridge which led to his home, townspeople were angered. A few days later, the same townspeople dragged the goatman out of his house and hung him under the bridge. Once they looked down however, they saw that his body was not there. In a panic, the murderers killed the rest of the goatman’s family in cold blood. Legend says that those who cross the bridge without headlights will sight the goatman on the other side.

With science teacher Jeb Puryear, English teacher Michael Vergien and librarian Michael Cooke as chaperones, the students drove forty minutes to see this bridge, where they told scary tales, including that of the goatman.
