CHS clubs begin season of giving before holiday break

By Jordan Bickham
Staff Writer

The week before winter break is meant to be intense, with last minute assignments being given all week. There’s little time to enjoy our final week of school before our extended break, but some students are willing to give up even more of their time for their extra curricular activities and clubs.

This week, various clubs and classes are having fundraisers that relate to the holiday season. For Model United Nations, the members are raising money by selling candy grams.  You can get one for a dollar and three for two dollars during lunch all week.  Send a candy gram to someone special this holiday season!

Another popular fundraiser going on this week is being held by DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), which participates in various marketing competitions through the year.  The club is selling its famous popcorn that is allowed to be eaten in class.  With six flavors, you’ll definitely be able to find popcorn for all your friends to eat in class!  You can also find out more about the DECA club itself by visiting their website.

Not only are different clubs doing fundraisers for themselves, some are collecting for others who are in need this holiday season, such as Students for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.  This week they are collecting donations of toys and treats for shelter dogs and cats, which you can drop off in B224.  There is also Operation Smile that is throwing a holiday party for members, and for everyone to make blankets for children recovering from surgery today at 4:00 in E203.

Get involved this week before the break by devoting your time to making blankets, donating treats to shelter animals or even just supporting some of the school’s clubs by buying candy grams or popcorn.
